1. Introduction about the Programme

The AYUSH Department, Chandigarh is providing preventive, Promotive and curative health care to the community. Ayurvedic and Homoeopathic Systems of medicine are very popular in Chandigarh. Presently six Ayurvedic and six Homoeopathic Dispensaries are functioning under the Directorate of AYUSH, Chandigarh Administration. Two Ayurvedic and two Homoeopathic dispensaries have been setup under NRHM in the community Health Centre in Sector 22 and Manimajra, Chandigarh respectively. Keeping in view the guidelines relating to roadmap of mainstreaming of AYUSH in the health delivery system following proposals have been under taken in   the National Health Mission :-

(a) Setting up of One Ayurvedic Dispensary;

(b) Setting up of Two Homoeopathic Dispensaries;

(c) Setting up of One Unani Dispensary;

(d) Establishment of Yoga Centre in Chandigarh;

(e) Training of Allopathic and AYUSH Doctors;

(f) Exhibition of AYUSH medicines

(g) Training of Teachers and Students for promoting Yoga/Naturopathy, Ayurvedic and Homoeopathic medicines.

Patients visiting Homoeopathic dispensaries are medically examined by the Doctor Incharge and medicines are prescribed to them according to the diagnosis. In Homoeopathic Dispensaries, more than 90% patients are given medicines from the Store of Dispensary.

4 Achievements since the inception of the Programme

a. Four AYUSH dispensaries (Two Ayurvedic and Two Homoeopathic) are functioning under National Rural Health Mission. These dispensaries are co-located in CHC, Sector 22, Chandigarh and Civil Dispensary, Manimajra, Chandigarh.

b. Four Health Melas were organized for the awareness and betterment of general public in rural areas under NRHM. AYUSH Doctors actively participate in these Health Melas AYUSH medicines were provided to the patients under the guidance of qualified doctors. Other medical and Health related guidance was provided to the general public by displaying various diseases related information.

c. An exclusive AYUSH Health Camp was organized by the Department of AYUSH on 30th March, 2010 in the Community Centre of Village Badheri, Chandigarh. As per registration record 776 no. of patients visited this Health Mela. Ayurvedic, Homoeopathic, Unani doctors and Yoga Instructors also participated in this AYUSH Health Camp. Ayurvedic, Homoeopathic and Unani medicines were distributed to the patients during the Health Camp. Yoga camp was also organized during the fair.

d. A State level National Campaign on Homoeopathy for Mother and Child Health Care was organized by the Department of AYUSH in collaboration with National Rural Health Mission, Chandigarh Administration on 19th – 20th March, 2010. The said Orientation workshop was inaugurated by Hon’ble Secretary Health, Chandigarh Administration. As per registration record 250 delegates participated in the said workshop which includes Allopathic, Ayurvedic, Homoeopathic doctors, Homoeopathic students, Press and AYUSH staff etc. Five Resource Persons were also invited to participate and express their view on various AYUSH subjects in the State Level National Campaign on Homoeopathy for Mother and Child Care.

e. Two Yoga Instructors have been appointed under NRHM for the popularization of Yoga System during the year 2009-2010. Yoga Camps have been started in various Schools, Dispensaries and in DDTC Centre of Govt. Multi-Specialty Hospital, Sector 16, Chandigarh every month. Such Yoga camps have already been held at Govt. Model School, Sector 37, Chandigarh, Govt. High School, Sector 38, Chandigarh and Govt. Ayurvedic Dispensary, Sector 28 & 37, Govt. Homoeopathic Dispensary, Sec. 27 and Drug De-addiction Centre, GMSH, Sec. 16, Chd. and at present Yoga Camps are in progress at GAD-28 and GAD-37 and GHD-27 and GHD-34 respectively.
